Habits and feeding knowledge of Chinese turtles

Customs and common sense of raising Chinese flowered turtles
China Flowered turtle

The English name of the Chinese flowered turtle is Chinese Golden Thread. It has webbed feet and is highly aquatic. The ventral side of the larvae of the Chinese painted turtle has black freckles that look like pearls, so it is also called the pearl turtle. Now let’s introduce some knowledge about the habits and breeding of Chinese turtles. < p > species, and carrion. Females and younger turtles eat mainly plants.

Temperature range:Air temperature: 26.7 to 30.0 degrees Celsius; Basking temperature: 28.9 to 35.6 degrees Celsius; Water temperature: 23.3 to 30.0 degrees Celsius.

Habitat: Slowly flowing streams, swamps, pools, lakes, and rivers at low altitudes. Ocadia sinensis can tolerate a wide temperature range from the colder areas of mainland China and Taiwan in the north to the hot tropical areas of Southeast Asia.

Distribution:Taiwan, the southern coastal provinces of China including Hainan Island, northern Vietnam, and parts of Laos.

Is it possible to learn turtle species for beginners: It should be yes. Individuals raised artificially can often adapt quickly as long as the feeding environment is suitable, and they are less likely to feel parasites. The Chinese turtles caught in the wilderness (WC) at the entrance need to be dewormed, which may not be possible by human beings, and a reptile veterinarian must be called in.

Situation of artificial breeding: The original species likes to bask in the sun, and often spends most of the time basking in the daytime. Heated bulbs and UVB lamps are required. It is recommended that you use a heavy water heater, but if kept in an outdoor pool, they can also withstand cooler temperatures. It is recommended to overwinter them indoors. Some individuals may also hibernate, but this is not recommended.

Recommended breeding location:For adult males, at least a 55-gallon water tank is required, or larger, while for females, at least a 2-gallon water tank is required. Their swimming skills are quite good, so the water should be relatively deep, and some driftwood or other "waterside facilities" should be placed to provide a habitat close to the water. Ocadia sinensis is great to keep in a pond and is easy to handle.

Food raised by humans: Larvae can be fed insects, worms, dried shrimps, fish, turtle food, fish food and aquatic plants. Adults tend to be more herbivorous and can be fed Anacharis, water lettuce, duckweed, other aquatic plants, and various green leafy vegetables such as dandelions, romaine lettuce, and kale. You might as well keep green leafy vegetables and aquatic plants in the water tank, and then feed the adult turtles two to three times a week with turtle food, but the amount should not be too much.

Housekeeping: Ocadia sinensi are generally non-aggressive and can coexist peacefully with other Asian turtles in close proximity. But then again, no one can guarantee that the two turtles will get along well together in the long run.

Others: The original seed is strong and has a large growth rate. However, many imported WCs often suffer from defects and plaques caused by rot and/or fungi. Due to the pressure caused by poor transportation conditions, WC turtles are dehydrated and stressed. Therefore, be sure to check carefully before purchasing, or purchase turtles from honest merchants. WC Chinese painted turtles must be dewormed, and the management of artificially grown individuals is similar to that of "basking turtles" such as donut turtles, slider turtles and painted turtles, and is relatively easy to manage. However, we are discouraged from mixing species from widely separated habitats, as this reduces the likelihood that turtles will be exposed to new diseases.

The carapace of the larvae is light gray/green, with three ridges and orange/yellow unconnected stripes, which is particularly cute. Their tails are astonishingly long, and their level of activity and uniformity in the Asian pet market is comparable to that of the Red Eared Slider (RES) in North America.
