A reasonable diet and balanced nutrients are the basis for maintaining a dog’s physical health. Although the occasional lack of nutrients will not have any effect on the body, if there is a long-term lack of certain nutrients, elements, it will undoubtedly cause certain harm to dogs. So every nutrient is very important for dogs. What we are going to talk about today is what are the effects of vitamin K deficiency in dogs.

The reason for the lack of vitamin K: There are two types of vitamin K in nature, namely K1 and K2. As for the so-called K3, it is a synthetic naphthaquinone. Vitamin Kl is widely found in green plants, and vitamin K2 can be freely synthesized by intestinal bacteria, so idiopathic deficiency will not occur. However, in obstructive jaundice, intestinal fistula, and persistent diarrhea, the digestive tract lacks enough bile, resulting in reduced vitamin K absorption. Or long-term use of bacteriostatic drugs (sulfonamides, chloramphenicol, etc.) may damage the intestinal flora and inhibit the synthesis of vitamin K, thereby causing secondary vitamin K deficiency.

Symptoms of lack of vitamin K: sick dogs feel allergic, loss of appetite, bleeding of skin and mucous membranes, watery blood, prolonged coagulation, pale mucous membranes, and accelerated heartbeat.

Treatment: Vitamin K 15 mg or vitamin K3 (menadione) 20 mg can be injected into the muscle, 1 to 2 times a day. When there is a large amount of bleeding, fresh blood should be injected immediately to replenish the thrombin.

From this point of view, the lack of nutrients will have different effects on dogs. Therefore, in order to avoid this situation, we usually have to pay more attention to the dog’s diet. Protect the abundance of nutrients.
